Hello.
I have searched the forums but couldn't find anything about this. Is there an EAC compatible ogg encoder dll, like the LAME dll? The dlls distributed with ogg don't work, and I don't want to use the external encoder if I can help it.

Why is that?

Curious too...if oggenc bringing up the cmd window bothers you then turn off the display of by checking the EAC>EAC Options>Tools (tab)>"Do not open external compressor" checkbox...then making it stick by saving as a profile.

Well, for one, having it as a DLL is less intensive since it compresses data while extracting, instead of in the end. Secondly, it uses less disk space because you don't have to extract the entire .wav and finally it's more "compatible", since I think this was the way the author meant it smile.gif It's just a matter of preference, really tongue.gif Is there a DLL somewhere I can use for it? Oh, and also, what is the latest/best ogg encoder version? I have the 1.0.1 I downloaded from Xiph's site today, are there others you would suggest?

oggenc can read data from stdin. You can perhaps pipe the extracted audio from EAC to oggenc, which is virtually the same process as using a DLL.

At the moment, there are two recommended versions.
The aotuV version is more suited to low bitrates, whereas the GT3b2
flavour is considered better at high bitrates.

If I were in your shoes I'd wait a bit to see if the attempts to combine
the strengths of aoTuV, Vorbis 1.1 and GT3b2 bear fruit.
Then you will have the ultimate vorbis encoder, thus you will no longer
need to pick encoders based on quality settings.

P.S. On this page:
http://www.rarewares.org/ogg.html
you can also find many versions of encoding libraries (libvorbis.dll)
which you can use with frontends like Besweet or rippers like CDEx.
Dunno if you can make them work with EAC...

Ah great, thanks. I use the GT3b2 external encoder for now (I use -q 6), but it would be really great if all these versions were combined. Does anyone know what the difference between libvorbis and EAC's dll format is? I'd at least like to try to get it to work with EAC...

External encoder can work in parallel with ripping anyways. It will only take very little extra time to encode by command line over encoding in real time. Plus there's the bonus that ripping speed won't be limited by encoder speed.
