I am wondering if Ian implemented real gapless playback for MP3 files created with LAME. unsure.gif

OK, I played a bit with it, but I can't get it to work straight. I added "The Wall (Disc 1)" as M3U. All files were imported correctly. Then I jumped to track 4 and moved the slider to almost the end. Instead of playing track 5 after the end of 4, it jumped to 6. Then I went back to 4, moved the slider to 90% and it jumped to track 7 at the end. blink.gif

Huh? And you're saying you don't have random play order switched on? It works great here.

No random play order.

Find out what the problem is... Try increasing your buffer to 2 seconds.
Pike84
Well, actually it's not working completely - there seems to be some problems with the newly added Unicode support, since I can no longer play some files with characters like 'ä', 'ö' etc.. We'll probably have a fix soon enough though.

out of curiousity...... has replaygain-support been implemented yet, "to make it more competitive with fb2k"? *g* i did read some talks about that on the un4seen-forums, but that was long ago.

edit: if xmplay will continue to implement more "pro"-features (real gapless-playback, cue-sheet support, etc.), then it may become a viable alternative for those people to whom winamp is too "general" and fb2k too "difficult". So, a small lightweight player which has the pro-tech of fb2k, but without the extreme customizability and extensibility which makes fb2k more difficult to use....... the obvious question of course is if xmplay goes that route, will it be able to keep its small filesize?!?

Good news all. XMPlay has a lot to offer, though it's main standout features for me goes just to it's very small filesize and simplicity of use. Otherwise I cannot see any reason not to use foobar2000, which is my daily choice on Windows-platform.
I have a vorbisstream going (created by use of fb2k > oddcast2 > Icecast2), and when Windows-users who wants to listen to it complains it won't work in WMP, I point them to XMPlay, just because it's such a very small download and so easy to use and handles vorbisstreams excellently (though I seldom fail to mention fb2k if I think the person is someone who would appreciate it's more advanced features and customizability). So I think small & easy are the main features XMPlays developers should continue to keep as primary focus.

mmm .. MODs ... brings back memories of Klisje Paa Klisje, Defloration, Witan's Facts of Life... anyone know of any good newer MODs (ITs, XMs, etc) and/or artists? laugh.gif

heh .. well, maybe this should be split over to off topic or something... what do the Mods tongue.gif say?

Modarchive.com and Scene.org has loads of old mods (xm, s3m, it, mod) laying around. I Really recommend the one's from: Lioz, Skaven, Purple Motion, Vogue, LizardKing, Elwood and Jugi smile.gif

This problem is now fixed smile.gif (it was a problem with some Winamp plugin, it seems).

And yes, the superior mod playback is one reason to choose XMPlay, for some. I often listen to mods myself.

AFAIK, foobar2000 uses BASS for the MOD playback.
Pike84
I think I've heard that before.. Still, there's no mention of BASS anywhere in fb2k's about or readme (which is actually a html FAQ) huh.gif.

[edit]...at least in v0.8 that I have installed.

That is being fixed with upcoming change of end-user license, now including proper credits for software libraries used.
Pike84
Ok, then.

By the way, there's another minor update released with a couple of bugfixes.
ralesk
My problem with FB2k regarding MOD playback is that there is no subsong support and we aren’t likely to get pattern view and pattern/row time display due to BASS not being native and all.

These days I am a bit apprehensive about experimenting with other decoders out there (very please with Foobar). But following a slew of positive reviews provided on CNET, I thought I'd try a download - just for fun.

Big surprise! This player seems to kick the snot out of the quality of live streams I frequently listen to through WMP. I spend countless hours monitoring radio streams out of the UK like that of 95.8 Capital FM. I would love furthur insight into what this player is doing to smoothout and inprove these lower quality bitrates. BTW, the 32kbp stream from Capital is native to Windows Media.

Thanks for the great tip PIKE84!! laugh.gif
