Full Version: Question about Lame and EAC ID3 Tags

Hi All!
I have been lurking here for a few days and you all convinced me to give up realplayer and switch to EAC and Lame for ripping/encoding my cds.

But now I am having a problem that I was hoping someone could help me with.

1.) When I create my MP3s with 'various artists' as the artist, I am getting an ID3 tag with both title and artist displaying the song title. This is not the case with other mp3s that have an actual artist's name.

2.) On all MP3s, It is still limiting the fields in the ID tags to 30 characters. So, "Saturday Night And Sunday Morning." comes out "Saturday Night And Sunday Mo.." But on closer examination with a hex editor the the entire tag is in the file. Is this just a limitation of my mp3 players and if so is there a player that supports the newer style of ID tags?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

From EAC.txt

  * If a CD has songs from various artists, you could select the option
'Various Artists' from the 'Edit CD Informations' menu. This will
enable split track names. The first part of each track name is then
the artist name and the second part is the song title. Both parts are
separated by the character '/'. For example :
    Metallica / Nothing Else Matters

1) Is the box which reads "Various Artists" checked?

2) Make Sure that you use ID3v2.3 and not ID3v2.4. "Compression Options" / "ID3 Tag"

Yes this is checked. Should it be?

I currently have the first two boxes checked and the third unchecked. So, I believe that I am not using 2.4.

As I said above, I think this is a limitation of the mp3 players I have, as the information is in the file itself. Do you know of any players that support the newer tags?

Though only 2.3. 2.4 has been known to cause some problems.
