Full Version: Soundcard choices for LP ripping?

I'm getting ready to begin ripping a moderate LP collection to WAV/CD/MP3 and was wondering if there's much difference between the different sound cards "line input" options?

I am considering getting an Audigy card but I think I remember somewhere seeing a thread that said that they were not great for this purpose.

Is there really a lot of variance between cards as I suspect?

Looking forward to hearing opinions before I spend money on an updated card.

BTW, I don't play games and don't really listen to music on the PC, just use it mainly for checking MP3's and playing a few songs while surfing the net. So optimal output quality isn't as important to me as good input performance.

Thanks again,

Yes there are differences with respect to line in quality of cards. Most creative cards resample recordings to 48000kHz, and not very well.

If you want to record LPs, Id think a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz could work well. It, like the creative cards, resamples, but does it well, and its cheap.
