Hi,

I have a Plextor PX-5224A cdrw drive.
I have firmware 1.03, Plextools Professional 2.15.

I've generally been using EAC for ripping. I have version 0.9b4.

Now need to copy a few cds (audio cds), and want to duplicate them as accurately as possible.

Wanted to use EAC, however, it doesn't seem to support my drive for writing, which is strange as I thought all Plextors were supported.

But if I try to perform the write test, or tell it to write to a blank cd then it comes up with a box saying that it is "Unable to detect write speed", and won't do it.

Does anyone with this particular drive have any ideas?
Would updating to a slightly newer version of EAC give support for my drive? If so, which EAC version is recommended?

I've been reading about gaps and cuesheets, and have a reasonable handle on it, but I want to know whether there is a copying method which will reproduce the gaps so that when the copied cd is placed in a standard hi-fi, the gaps actuallly appear as the negative counts?
I can only seem to see mention of either appending them to the end of the previous track or to the beginning of the track in question.
Will any software produce copied cds like this, or is appending gaps to the previous track the closest I can get?

Another question:

Does anyone have drive info. for the Plextor PX-5224A?

I don't have the settings I've found on me now, but will post them later. I'd appreciate confirmation of my findings, to see if anyone else has got the same or different.

It's read offset appears in the accuraterip database, but it isn't yet in the EAC related databases, so I haven't been able to find any of the other bits of info on it yet.

Cheers

I've been using same drive, too. EAC once had a problem with high speed(over 40x) burners, IIRC until 0.95pb3. The latest version(0.95pb5) works without any problem here.

Settings I use for PX-5224A(1.03);
Read samples offset correction value:+30
Write samples offset:-30

Edit: typo

Thanks harashin,

it sounds probable that it's a problem with it's higher speed, since the error it comes up with is that eac can't detect the write speed.

I'll have a go at one of the later eac revisions.

0.95 versions are more recent than 0.9?

0.95pb4 and 0.95pb5 are on the eac website so I can easily get them.

offset wise i get the following;

read offset CORRECTION = +30 (so actual read offset is -30)
write offset = -30

Is this what you meant? EACs inconsistency about wanting the correction value for read offsets but the actual value for write offsets is a little confusing.
I have +30 entered in the read box in eac and -30 in the write box.

How about the other features of the drive? Could we have a full swap of our findings on the settings? It would certainly make me feel that bit better and more certain about it all.
Have you seen the Help Other Users bits on the SatCP tutorial? And there's another eac drive database somewhere else too, can't remember where, but it's one of the german sites. I'd like to submit my info to them when I feel quite sure on it.

cheers

Well, here are actual screenshots of my settings.

You only need a program that reads index marks and a burning program that write them.

Your read cuesheet must have INDEX 00 and INDEX 01.
The time between INDEX00 and INDEX01 will be shown as negative times in most players.

If the cusheet doesn't have index0, then the pause will not be a pause, it will be a silence...

Most programs do it, EAC, Burrrn, burnatonce with cuesheets, I guess that PlexTools too, and Feurio without need of cuesheets.

Thanks for your help.

Here's the configs I've got with 0.9b4. Though I'm going to probably try the newest 0.95pb5 and see how I go with that, as I should then also be supported for writing.

Brand: Plextor
Model/Type: PleXWriter PX-W5224A
Firmware: v1.03
Accurate Stream: Yes
Audio Caching: Yes
C2 Error Retrieval: Yes
Read Command: D8
Read Offset Correction: +30
Overreading into Lead-In and Lead-Out: I/O
Read CD-TEXT Information: Yes
Gap/Index Retrieval Method: B
Gap Detection Accuracy: Secure
EAC Write: 0.9b4 - No
Write Offset: -30
Overwriting into Lead-In and Lead-Out: ?
Write UPC/ISRC Information: Yes
Write CD-TEXT Information: Yes
Average EAC Reading Speed:
Comment: Gap Retrieval A also works for most cds. Only used for EAC 0.9b4, not write supported.

cheers

Hi alexw!

I apologize for reaching you with such a primitive question and besides - completely off-date!

I'm not deeply into cd ripping, so I need your advise!

I also use this PX-5224A and I'm not sure about this EAC READ OFFSET CORRECTION VALUE for this drive!

Obviously, your values are wrong either, as the Accurate Rip database says that the "SAMPLE OFFSET" for this drive is "+30", meaning that the correction value in the "Read Offset Correction" is "-30"!

Am I write or wrong, what do you think!?

Besides, do you know any other database, that lists drive read offset values which could be a double proof..

Thanks!
Martin H
AccurateRip's offset values is actually offset correction values.
