Hey,
I got a 5 second sample that vorbis isn't handling well. It sounds like it stumbles on a minor bit of percussion just before a loud beat and the noise splits across the stereo image like a hiccup. It does this pretty much all the way up the quality scale.
I was using the july 13th build of vorbis. I also tried mp3 and mpc and they handle it fine. I don't have any place too upload it, but I'd be glad to e-mail it.

If someone hasn't already contacted you, you can email it to me at if you like.

I mailed it off to Dibrom just now in .ape format. If you need flac instead it isn't a problem. Can't wait to hear what you think about that hiccup at the begining of the clip. By the way, it came from juslisen by musiq.

Got it.

Download it here.

A flac encoded version will probably be going up soon also, but I don't have time to convert it right this minute.

Can't confirm. I tried -q4.99 and -q5. Too tired, I'll try tomorrow again.

ABX results would be always helpful...

i cant abx at -q3 sad.gif

This sample is clipping hard both in the percussion and bassline. With hard clipping like this, all bets are off after lossy compression....

(FWIW, my listening indicated Vorbis was dealing fairly gracefully with the clipping)

I'f I'm confused and you're trying to point out somehting else, let me know.
MiXP
No, I wasn't. I thought it sounded like clipping and normalized the clip which entirely solved it. A small side note, with the latest winamp plugin from peter if dithering is turned on it seems to really emphasize the problem. Just thought I'd bring it up because when it is left off the problem is only noticeable to me at low bitrates.
