I know, no one listens to Beatles any more - well, I do.
I'm no beatles freak, so thought to post this b4 I send this song into digital heaven. Can't play digital music backwards.

What?
Audible!
I have kept it for archival purposes but I do not have it in my Beatles playlists for obvious reasons.

use a program like goldwave. it allows you to listen to music backwards.

With Audacity, a free open source sound editor, you can also reverse a sound file.
mobius
Sometimes I like to listen to it upside down and backwards.

that got my attention though, what are the obvious reasons? Never have even heard of this song before.

And it is very easy to reverse an audio file in Soundforge; every now and then the mood strikes me and I pick some crappy pop song to play with. Britney Spears or similar type songs can be great fun to butcher with the pitch, direction, etc.

edit: did a google search on that album name. I have heard of it, but never heard a single track from it. Still not clear at all just the deal is with the Revolution 9 track, but there was some kind of odd confusing dialogue on one search hit apparently directly transcibed from it. No way in hell am I paying $27 at amazon.com just to give it a try. The Beatles can stay on the 'no real interest, and completely absent from my audio collection' list along with Pink Floyd and many other groups from that era.

It's not really a "song" . It is a lengthy tape collage made by John Lennon when he was playing with (some 7?) tape machines somewhere in the studio.
It sounds like he was on heavy drugs dry.gif

You've never heard Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Back In The U.S.S.R. etc?

What planet are you on?! Can't you receive radio stations from planet Earth? wink.gif

Cheers,
David.

If I remember the story correctly John and Yoko made this "song" the night they first made love. The were just fooling around.

Later John(/Yoko?) insisted that it was put on the album dispite protests from the others.

They had a lot of material after their trip to the maharishi (many of the songs are written there. that is the reason many of the songs are just a guy and a guitar) and noone wanted to exclude any if THEIR songs so they had to make a double album.

They could have made one killer album had they cut down the material but IMO it is stil one of their best albums.

I can tolerate the 'pop' sound from the early 60's, but anything past their first few years has very little interest for me. The only album that I have from them is the '1' album from 2000 (free gift from a friend in another forum), and after hearing that once & rarely if ever intentionally playing it again, I realised why they are absent from my collection.
I have at least heard of most the albums they produced and can name many of their songs, unlike groups like Pink Floyd where I can not name more than one song without help from google.

That's the worst load of crap I have spend time reading in a long time.

Only good point he makes (he doesn't really waste much time actually making a point anyway) is that oldies radio stations only use a very limited amount of the good material they could be playing.

Regarding beatles they very rarely play much else than "love me do" and "I want to hold your hand" and those numbers instead of playing the later material; the material that at least to me is what makes The Beatles special.

I know.

But that's probably exactly the point of this article. It happened before at the SomethingAwful website (see TruthMedia Reviews, which were created for the sole purpose of attracting flames).

OTOH, it's quite possible that the author does not really like Pink Floyd and other bands mentioned in the article. For example, there has been a lot of Radiohead bashing on SomethingAwful, but apparently many of their editors really do dislike Radiohead.

I agree 100%. While their early work is some excellently crafted and catchy pop, it also has little substance and sounds really dated now.

It's only with Revolver (1965) that the Beatles really started to become interesting for me. They made some truly genre-defining masterpieces that were way ahead of their time during the 1965-1970 period.

I like the White Album very much. And have from when it was first released. Revolution 9 is what an acid trip sounds/feels like. Try it over headphones in a pitch black room. cool.gif
