I am new using LAME. I have heard best of him, so I want to try it. Currently I am using Audio Catalist 2.1 and my favorite encoding option is VBR, Norm/High quality, JStereo. I have one question here. Is Catlist's VBR actually ABR?

I read LAME documentation, but still I don't get some things. First, my goal is to get file sizes as close as Audio Catalist's but with better quality. I read somewhere that LAME is much better than Xing's encoder. Please confirm me that is true and explain me why.

Than please help me with switches that I should use to get to my goal.

Also can you tell me if I should give up of jstereo and go to stereo, should I use -d switch (explain me what it really does in terms of sound quality), and is there any need using -p switch (think I read somewhere that is just for streaming media)?
What is the difference betwean -vbr and --vbr-new (I saw that new vbr was quicker, bat what about quality)?

Also I am testing EAC and I am very pleased with it. I think that I will forget Audio Catalist forever if I configure LAME within EAC to work fine. Any suggestions what can I do to to configure EAC to
work even better???

I have more questions, but I'll wait till your answers start to arrive to these ones. Thanks !!!
