LOL.

Yeah, I saw it.

Let's discuss that on dalnetvqf.com, Layer3. biggrin.gif

Case tested it some. Same old crap quality. There isn't even a winamp plugin that plays those out there.

Do you know if he used the high quality setting?

I'm pretty sure he did. He spent a bit of time with it IIRC.

I'm not really surprised by this anyway. Even if technically the new higher bitrate vqf could sound good (considering it's severely outmatched in technical ability by newer encoders), the most important thing is low level hand tuning of the psymodel (driven by listening tests by people with very good hearing). I just can't imagine that the time and resources to do this were spent on the new vqf.

lol, damn i keep asking myself why damn ahead soft is supporting crappy codecs???

AAC and vorbis seem like the mainstream good ones and still no support for either both...

Well.. WMA8 is also capable of 192kbps, but I doubt anyone would use it ;·)

Edit

Ok Tom, I rectify. I did test WMA8 at 192 and found it very acceptable (The problems that characterize it at 64kbps don't show up at that bitrate). Still, it should be checked which quality does it have at those bitrates. ( among other coders )

Got a couple of my fav CDs in WMA8 192kbit and actually can't complain.

Yeah, other encoders are way more efficient than WMA8, but it was a test. And as long it sounds listenable, I won't reencode it! biggrin.gif

I'm actually expecting more from WMA9 soon.

Isn't it kind of interesting that we just have 2 new threads started by people with 1 post both plugging VQF? Hmmm.... smile.gif

and I was so grateful when Benjamin Lebansoft (sic?) suggested the VQF.com forum disappear and it closed. It was like a roadkill... as much as you knew it was a horrible sight, you couldn't stop looking.

Hopefully we won't see the same thing here.

I surely miss the old vqf.com forum.

It probably had one of the highest amounts of sillyness per square meter in the whole WWW. biggrin.gif

Rest in peace...

aah, I remember the old VQF.COM forum...

Every other post was a "MP3 ist death! All your bases..." post.... biggrin.gif

I also remember I couldn't stop checking it, fascinating in a way...... After that I mostly read the r3mix forums but I felt they were too mp3 biased at least back then. Then I found this forum and I haven't looked back since.... smile.gif

I thought all the VQF pushers had since long vanished. biggrin.gif
