Hi
i have a lot of songs in mp4,ogg and mpc , and i have to convert in mp3
i did decode them
and i encoded with lame.exe --preset-alt extreme -k

is a good idea using the switch (-k)???
NumLOCK
Hi,

No.. the -k switch is a very bad idea. (confirmed many times by LAME developers too).

I recommend you to use plain --alt-preset extreme (see List of recommended LAME settings for more information)

thanks NumLOCK

but should i use preset extreme when i ripped audio cd made from mp3??

for example i received some audio cd , the origin format was mp3

should i use onyl --preset-alt extreme ?

To retain the remaining quality you should encode those mp3>cd's with a lossless encoder like FLAC or Monkey's Audio.
NumLOCK
If the original was from a mp3, there are high chances that it was in lower quality than --alt-preset standard (ie: 192kbps full-stereo CBR or such). So for the reencoding I'd go no higher than --alt-preset standard. Or maybe keep the tracks as lossless.

But anyway, if the music is worth it I'd rather buy the real cd and encode from it wink.gif

hehe. not really supposed to talk about how you got stuff like that dry.gif

but anyhoo, "transcoding" lossy > lossy destroys the sound, so it's best not to go down that path without knowing what you're in for.

(btw, if you've got the bandwidth, it is possible to acquire lossless rips. not that i'm advocating stealing the hard earned dollars of those poor record companies who really only want the best for everyone smile.giftongue.gif)

buying the album is a good idea if you like what you're hearing...
