Full Version: How to connect the M-Audio LX4 to a PC soundcard?

Hello,

Recently, I've been searching for a decent 2.0 or 2.1 speaker set for my PC. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, using a seperate receiver and bookshelf combination is not an option. I've mostly been looking at the Altec MX5021, Swans m200, and the M-audio LX4.

Based on what I've read, the LX4 looks as though it will satisfy my diverse needs very well. However, my one concern with it is this: how to connect it to my PC's soundcard (Creative Audigy 2)? My knowledge of audio equipment and connections is very limited. If anyone could tell me which connectors/adapters I would need, I'd be most grateful. I'll admit, I'm still a little confused by the manual found below:

http://www.m-audio.com/images/en/manuals/L...ies_Manual2.pdf

From the look of it, I would need a 3.5mm Stereo Male- to- (dual) RCA Female Y cable and then two seperate 1/4-inch Female To RCA Male Connectors. This is assuming the included LX4 1/4 cable is male on both ends. Also, I've assumed that only the left and right TRS (1/4 inch) inputs are used for the 2.1 setup. I'm guessing the LFE and center inputs are only used when the 5.1 expander set is used. I could be wrong, though.

Also, any other comments or caveats on M-Audio's product reliability/durability/quality and/or the LX4 in particular?

Thanks in advance,
McCoy

M-Audio's a good brand. However you might also consider something like the Griffin Powerwave, an integrated sound card and amplifier.
I take it this is for games, from the Audigy 2 you have?
Unless you change to E-MU, you will anmost certainly have unbalanced outputs. It says use a "TRS" plug. Not quite sure what that is.

As far as useage goes, I plan to use the system for about 70% music and 30% games. Mostly I've been using the audigy because it was availible. In fact, I've been considering purchasing an E-MU 0404 sound card, which looks like it'll resolve the connection issue as well. Though, I haven't really even scratched the surface on researching a new sound card.

Thanks,
McCoy

Edit: Clarity and typo.

Emu 0404 is the best card in it's price range. If you want to get a good sound card for music it would be a good choice.

OK, the TRS plug is just the 1/4 plug, with two or three components. Not sure where to get such a plug with three mono inputs.
