Full Version: Streaming p2p (sharing my music with a friend)

Hi,

The other day, talking to a friend, we were thinking it would be great if we could know what's the other listening to at any moment and even join the other to listen to it. We both are most of the time online, and we don't want anyone else to access this information + feature. We use Winamp or Foobar (and sometimes iTunes, but this is a diferent story).

So, from what I understand, we should need some kind of voice/ music conferencing messaging application. It would let us reach the other through an IP plus a password, and then have access to the 'playing now' and to 'join the listening'. But while searching for such a program over the net, I can see this apps offer to many features but little or none related to what we espect of it.

Then I looked for streaming applications, such as shoutcast, and even streaming plugins for Winamp. But either they are focused on having a proper radio station (with all its dificulties), or they don't look to stream anything. No luck on Google nor on Sourceforge. crying.gif

After all this I feel pretty lost and I'll thank any help, be it 'the exact program we're looking for' (what, on the other hand I don't think it should be so strange - (?) ), or be it any tips about what direction to look for.

Thanx for your attention,
hip

I don't think you can do this easily if it has to be streaming. It would be hard to find a program that supports all the formats you need. Also you probably won't be able to stream lossless formats.

Perhaps you can use something like http://www.wombatinvasion.com/ instead.

Hi,

Thanx for the fast response !!!!

I'm just checking the URL you just showed above and sounds like it may do it. I'll give it a try and will post 'my veredict' biggrin.gif , just in order to close or keep this thread.

By the way, it doesn't have to be Winamp or Foobar to do the broadcasting. It was just a note on our apps. The ideal would be a third independent program, broadcasting a 'catch all' from the computer sounds (or the wave, at least).

Thanx again, Jan S.,
