I shall be giving ye olde Law Society, Citizens Advice Bereau, as well as a certain solicitors a ring tomorow or the day after; because I am sure something is not quite right with the following situation (abridged) smile.gif

: Sometime in 2000 odd, doorman at a club I am DJ'ing at is accused of rape, he wants me to be a witness, and give a statement.
: I did, pretty much all I could say is that "She was all over him", "They appeared to be together" etc,.. as that is all I saw.
: He got proven innocent
: He then publishes a book about it
: I bump into him working on the door in a pub, and he says that he gave two copies of the book to another friend of mine (Who was also a witness).

This is where I discover that on page 235, it has
"I, Mark Hooper of x, xxxxxxxxx Street, Gloucester will say as follows:"

This is none too clever from my perspective, this 'story' concerns the roughest of the rough of society! "Oh look, thats someone who helped him get off, lets duff him up", "Oh look, someone who's a DJ, must be a set of decks and a good few records there. Lets rob the joint" etc,...

The only person I gave my address to was the solicitors. And its so long ago that I cant remember if it was read out in court or not... But regardless of that, the crux is: I'm presuming there are privacy laws against this sort of thing. Are there?

If you need an opinion on the law you are best advised to ask a lawyer. cool.gif

You really shouldn't say that, even as a joke - especially given the rather sick goings on that are in the UK news at present. (I'm referring to the parents of the murderer who have been murdered).

Lev, if it's in the court records, I suspect it's public knowledge - though there seem to be agreements that this information isn't published (i.e. you rarely see it in newspapers) even though it would probably be legal to do so.

If you're attacked or have your records stolen, maybe you'll just have to take him to court to claim damages!

(As you can tell, this is all pure speculation - sorry!)

Cheers,
David.
