I have some files in --r3mix, lame 3.89b & I was thinking of burning with some new --alt preset/3.92 albums or scraping them I'm sure I hear flaws but I really don't have the time for ABX and my good system is else where so I'm not sure about the quality.
What quality would you rate old --R3mix?, equal to Blade(CBR) 320's, FHG (j-stereo/CBR) 225's, low, medium, high quality, etc.
As for what I've read in these forums, people tend to say that remix is bad, because it puts artifacts on, whereas alt-presets are tweaked against those artifacts.
I have old encodings, and generally they sound find to me, except when going back to lame 3.84 alpha (hey, that was long ago :·P)
-r3mix uses a lowpass at 18.5 if I remember well, ( blade does not filter, at least at 320kbps), joint stereo (in 3.89 it's good enough, or at least that's what I think), and I can't remember which other switches.
So, in the end: If you don't hear artifacts, it is fine.
--r3mix is ok as long as you're not sensitive to preecho, or the music just doesn't have any sharp transients in it. It's better than 192CBR.

--r3mix was there before --dm presets.
