Hello!

I have a DVD-R formatted with Roxio's DirectCD and I would like to copy some files from the disc to a PC which doesn't have DirectCD installed. However, although I inserted the DVD-R into a DVD-RW writer, Windows is not able to access the files and pops up an "E:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function." error.
The PC I am currently working on has Nero installed and when using its Disc Info feature, I can see two sessions - one containing about 500 KB and the other containing more than 3 GB of data. Would it be safe to use the "Close VR disc" function?

Probably be better off installing Nero's InCD and see if it can read it.

Eh, the evils of packet-writing software.

Adaptec/Roxio had a UDF reader that was freely downloaded sometime back, however I don't know if it works with DVD's, it did however work with CD's. Another possibility is IsoBuster - http://www.cdrecovery.net as one of it's features is to find lost data created with packet-writing software.

The frightening thing is that it cannot access the disc at all. I know that DirectCD burns the UDF reader on the disc (probably the first session with 500 KB), so I should be able to at least access those files.

If you do try IsoBuster: 1. Load it first. 2. Insert the disc.

Since I haven't used packet-writing software for over 6 years (too many problems) I have not ideal if using Nero to close the disc would permantly damage it, or make it accessable within Windows.

Something else that just came to mind, can you create an .ISO image file of the disc? If so there are programs such as WinRAR than can extract from .ISO images as if they were a regular archive.
