Full Version: Is there anything wrong with 1X ripping?

I have a EPO DVD-ROM unit and a Iomega CD-RW unit. The DVD unit is 10X and the other is 32x8x4x. Both IDE units on diferent ide channels.
Using cdparanoia with the default options I get at most 2X ripping speed (near the end of the CDs) Average is 1.5X and the minimum is around 1X.
I never ever get sound error, thankfully. Is that speed O, or I shoud be getting higher speeds?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I'm pretty sure there is a setting under the drive options where you have to custom set your CD-ROMs extraction speed.

Use EAC. It will reread every sector up to a maximum of 85 times if there is an error. It will tell you if you have a perfect rip by saying "there were no errors"

If he said:

Then why would you tell him:

Maybe I misunderstood him, but I don't think he is getting errors with CDex. I think his main point is that his rips are extremely slow.

I remembered when this happened to me when I setup CDex on my buddy's computer. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the ripping was sooo slow. I checked the settings and you have to manually configure the drive extraction speed. So for your 32x drive you could set it all the way up to 32x or anywhere inbetween.

Perhaps, but only if using 'Paranoia, Full'. And, when encountering a disc that has alot of scratches that produce glitches a slower speed may or will have to be selected. With some drives setting the drive speed can cause more problems when a particular speed isn't supported, or if setting any speed is supported. The only way I know of to find out what speeds can be user-selected is to run the Feurio drive tests to find out what is and isn't supported.
