Listening to: "Come Together" by Beatles, from "The Beatles 1" (2000) on foobar2000 v0.667
That's a coincidence. Very close to the same time this morning I was listening to
Come Together as well as the rest of The Beatles 1967-1970 [blue album].

By the way... I received Rush - Power Windows a few days ago. I could not believe my ears. I have
never ever been as excited about an album as this one - it's simple *awesome*, every single second of it is worth listening to.
The production is so unbelieveably good, pretty much any other 80s album I have sounds like crap to me after listening to this.

They use loads of synthesizers and sound effects on this album, and their sound is... breathtaking, the arrangements are absolutely fantastic. Not like cheap 80s at all.
What's surprising is the complexity of the melodies... usually, I'm able to sing or hum along with most songs of an album after listening to it as much as I have to Power Windows, but it's not at all easy with this album. Some of the choruses on the other hand have been fixed in my memory right after the first listen (especially that of "Marathon" - absolutely phenomenal).
Also, this is one of the very few albums that actually made my try to
understand the lyrics (I'm
[EDIT] NOT
[/EDIT] doing very well

).
The only thing that bugs me is (surprise, surprise) that this remastered edition has had all dynamics squashed out, and you can really feel it in some parts (i.e., when there's what should be a loud blast, you can hear that there was a limiter, err, limiting it), courtesy of Bob Ludwig

. Album gain is -7.63 dB (would be about -8 dB if calculated by any program other than MPC replaygain), track gains range from -8.60 dB to -6.83 dB.
Apart from that though, it's one of the best if not the best album I've ever listened to. Definitely highly recommended, especially if you can get it to the equivalent of 6.66 EUR as I did.

I'll definitely explore more Rush material in the future, but the fact that they're actually a hard rock band (absolutely no signs of that on Power Windows, but Vapor Trails is *very* hard rock, and I can't at all say I like it) makes me a little reluctant to buy their albums without being able to preview them, something tells me I had a lucky draw with Power Windows.

Listening to: "Reason To Believe (Live)" by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, from "Live 1975-85 (CD2)" (1986) on foobar2000 v0.667
These tracks which originally appeared on
Nebraska sound a lot better on the live album, in fact they sound great. As I said, this box set is cool anyway.

(Man, I'm enjoying this thread

)
Edit: Hmm, I had forgotten a vital word there.
