Hi Everyone
I was referred to this page as a last resort of hope...
I have a large collection of mp3s, mostly home made, but from very differing sources (BladeEnc, LAME, FhG), and some selfrecorded from a friend...
to make a long story short: I need to synch their Volume, and mp3gain sprang to my eyes ...

the Problem:
Any Version I downloaded, be it the Full installation, EXE installation, anything, either won't let me extract the .CAB file, or simply insists on a CRC error while extracting (using winRAR)

If anyone could point me in the right direction, please?
Is there something I should do, any program i should use for extracting... ?
or maybe someone could email me a zipped or RARed folder ? coldkatz@aon.at

No clue of what's happening to you, but try www.7-zip.com

Works like the compressed folder of WinME and later Windows, and supports .cab files, and it's *Free*

...and not to forget the command line utility 'extract' that comes with Windows.

Yea, me too. I'm getting error codes out the ying-yang. I have no clue what to do. Even the suggested 7-Zip program doesn't work....error code says "file is not supported archive". WTF is up with the latest MP3Gain *.zip files not opening?

Indeed, the .zip file is corrupt.

And yes. 7-zip chokes there. And in some other zip files, I noticed. If you want a free file compressor, I would recomend PowerArchiver. It can decompress more formats too, BTW.

Well, can anyone point me to a link where the MP3Gain .zip file is not corrupt? Anyone mirror a working version?

7-zip doesn't support old zip methods shrinking, crunching,...

And yes, PowerArchiver 6.1 is free as 'gratis', but PowerArchiver 7.0 don't.

I am having the same problem - I don't understand what Roberto is saying - do we need this other program to extract it correctly or is there some place (or can someone send) a non-corrupted zipfile of mp3gain to us poor saps? Thanks

You can do what I did. Go to google.com and do a search for MP3Gain. Find some site out there that has an older version available for download. I think I found version 0.7.1 or something like that. Download the full install version so you get all the setup files. Once you get the old version up and running, you can then go back to the main MP3Gain site and download the GUI and CLI updates only. Those zip files aren't corrupt. Unzip them and replace the .exe files and you're good to go. This isn't a perfect solution, but it worked for me since no one else posted an alternate link to a working version. Hopefully the author is aware of this problem by now.

There's always the possibility that your computer is infected with a virus such as CIH.

Try out a little diddy on the net called KillCIH, and another called CleanCIH.

I realized that I have a different problem then mentioned above but the end result is the same - unable to run mp3gain - I get the following error message:

Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid


I did try to look for an older version but had no luck finding one (good idea though).

I sent an email to the guy who wrote mp3gain and maybe he will be able to fix thse zip file.

I was having the same problem. You need to find the full install version that contains the visual basic run-time files. I found version 0.7.6 at the site below. It's in German (or Dutch I think), but the link to the full version is in english right at the top. Download that and give it a shot. Then upgrade the .exe files like I suggested.

P.S. I think the author of the program is aware of the corrupt files. His website is updated.

Yes, yes I am. Sorry for the inconvenience. The file mirroring has some problems sometimes, and since David (who keeps the mirrored files up-to-date) and I live in completely different time zones, when there's a problem the communication is sometimes a bit slow (I send the message during a time when he's sleeping, he sends a reply when I'm sleeping, etc.).

I'll make another announcement when the 0.8.1 Full install version is working.

Your solution worked. I also received an email from the author Glen Sawyer who stated that the file on the site should be fixed shortly. He also stated that the missing file that I noted above file is a MS visual basic run time file that can be found here or just do a search for the missing file name
