When I listen to CD's I've burned most of the tracks contain a scratchy noise [it sounds like bad reception on an FM tuner] in the background. Sometimes it's loud, sometimes its subtle. Morever, on a few CD players, it will play up to about the first or 2nd track then spit out the cd with an 'error' message.

All the CD players I've used are CD-R/RW compaitable.

The CD's I've burned to were no-name brand to the most expensive Sony brand I could find.

The software I'm using to burn is Nero v6.x

My CD burner is an LG 40x12x40 cdrw.

I don't know what's going on. blink.gif

.....maybe u burn it too fast?
try again with burn speed 8X, see whether it works.

bcoz I have the same problem when burning disc too fast

Sony CD-Rs are bad bad nasty ones
they are made form

lead data or sony!!!!

many ppl in HA use Taiyo Yuden, maybe you should try one of those!
I use Verbatim DataLifePlus bcoz its the best CD-R i can find from the nearest store

I've had this before with nero's cd copier using stock tdk discs. Using TDK 'audio' cd's fixed it. It has something to do with the burning software / media.

I've never encountered such issues when ripping with EAC or Cdex (full paranoia mode).

Regardless of the brand I've only had playback issues such as scratching noises when putting a label on the disc. The noises progressively worsen towards the halfway to end of the disc. The labels cause problems when the disc heats up.

try scanning the problem discs for errors.

I have the same LG burner and likely the same sony media. The problem is definetly the media, either the LG is inherently incompatible with those CDR's or the quality of the media is poop, or a combination of both. The playback noise you describe is exactlly what happens on my Kenwood CD-Changer, which appears to have horrible error correction as my car head unit plays them just fine.

With nero cd/dvd speed you can scan the disc for errors, it'll show you graphically just how bad the recording is.

I'm not sure if it is the media. I've used the Memorex brand also and the same thing happens.

I scanned some of the discs using Nero's CD-DVD Speed tool many blocks were 'damaged' and 'unreadable'.

I'll try out some of the other recommendations.

hmm. i think burning it at a slower speed did the trick. thanks for the help guys.

I have had similar problems with just a few of the hundreds of CD's I own. I too have tried Nero 5 & 6, WMP 9 and EAC.

In my case if I listen to the original CD on any PC I have access to, I get the same problem. All copies burned on my machine and others, regardless of speed and disc brand have this raspy "quality". WMA's and MP3's, same problem.

I have no problems if I listen to the disc on any non-pc player; even a cheap boom box corrects the problem. The only suggestion I've heard is that the levels are too hot and need to be adjusted down but I do not have the equipment for it.

Maybe it is a different issue but I am still lost as to why.

A soundcard/mixer issue, most likely. What is your system setup?
