I use mp3tag to tag my mp3s, and have used it to tag my MAC files thus far. However, I occaisionally run in to a situation where the tag is not completed (runs out of space?). I was wondering if there are any simple to use programs for tagging .ape files. I've tried mp3tag v2, MAC 3.97, and foobar2000. I like the ease-of-use with mp3tag. Thanks for helping a n00b out. smile.gif

I see you tried foobar but was this with the freedb plugin? That's the best way I know to quickly tag most albums.

Tag&Rename is capable of writing APEv2 tags to Monkey's Audio files.

Support for: mp3 (ID3v1, ID3v2.2, ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.4 tags), MusePack mpc/mp+ (APEv1, APEv2 and ID3v1 tags), Windows Media wma, asf and wmv files, Ogg Vorbis and Flac (vorbis comments), Apple iTunes and iPod aac (m4a) files including mp4, lossless m4a and protected m4p files, most popular lossless codecs including monkey’s audio, wav pack, optim frog, flac, Apple and Windows Media lossless.

It imports meta-data from freedb and Amazon.com.
Unfortunately All Music Guide is no longer supported due to AMG's site change.

The GodFather
Which supports .mp3, .ogg, .mpc, .ape, .flac, .aac, .apl and .wv files.
And does quite a bit, not to mention it's free.

Hope this helps, tec

Another vote for Tag&Rename. I like it slightly better than mp3tag for one reason; the ability to select which tags are displayed/modified right up front. With mp3tag I'm always having to go into the options to make sure I have things set up right before deleting/reading/writing tags as there is no easy way to view what is being affected. Makes me paranoid, lol. I did find a problem the other day with Tag&Rename though. It doesn't seem to want to display the length and bitrate of lossy .wv files. Not sure about lossless .wv or other formats uisng APE tags, nor other info tabs. Not really a big deal though.

slighty off-topic, but regarding mp3tag, Ganymed (Florian - the mp3tag developer) thought about implementing loading and saving of profiles, but actually it is not planned rolleyes.gif
The reason I prefer masstagger to mp3tag is this profile-stuff, it's not that much fun to change the things by those annoying click-trips - I have this thought since ape-tagging was made possible, I always wonder why those important things are not considered as that important as they really are.
Last aspect is also present within a disadvantage of masstagger - renaming and tagging is splitted, you don't have one window and you cannot mix both things in a script AFAIK.
Cause of this I waste a lot of time to do things still by hand, it's a pitty but who wants to demand breakthrough magic? - at least I am happy at all to be able to use these progs.
Time to wonder as optimization is important in any league... smile.gif
