Is There a GUI version of LAME?

There is RazorLame.

Edit: Or UniversalFront, ALL2LAME or the clienc diskwriter of foobar2000.

Razorlame isn't a GUI of LAME, it's a GUI for LAME. (to save any possible confusion)

I'm surprised you were unable find one with search. ohmy.gif

The only Lame GUI is mp3X, the frame analyser:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/screenshots/screenshots.html

But there are numerous frontends that can go on top of Lame.

What about LamedropXPd? Does anyone use it so much that an update to 3.96.1 is a good move?

I can certainly provide a 3.96.1 version if it is required. smile.gif

And we can't forget lameGUI.html in the .\misc folder.

LamedropXPd is nice. I definitely prefer your XPd versions to the standard *drop front-ends john33. As always, you take care of us well.
It's what I recommend when the situation arises. I don't have a need for it all that often though. But if you wanted to update it I won't stop you.

See ya, tec

Well, I wouldn't say it's required, but since you offered smile.gif

Why do, apparently, neither of these programs consider the input file? They just encode at a set bitrate, not caring if the input file actually requires that bitrate/setting.

Also, the only program I found that would display the current data of the file(such trivial things as channels, sampling rate and such) was LameBatch.
Are all MP3 encodings today CD Rips or does no one match input and output settings?

yes, please smile.gif

using Lame on the command line can sometimes be a pain, since it does not properly support wildcard characters (and I hate to have to edit scripts all the time)

I think that LAMEDrop is a perfectly suitable frontend. If that is the sort of thing that you are looking for.

Sorry I just now read your last post before mine and I am not sure if it can handle wildcards. Sorry if I caused any problems. I thought you were just looking for a GUI/frontend when I typed my last post.

just testing - and seems to perform well smile.gif

there's no need for wildcard support when dropping files onto something

some lame(3.96.1)dropxpd would nevertheless be nice to have, especially since my backups are stored losslessy compressed (ape, flac, wavpack) and have to be decoded before feeding them to LAMEDrop

Good point, I wasn't thinking of it that way in either of my posts. I'm glad if I happened to be of any help at all, even if I didn't think things over as much as I should have. Its 5:29 AM here and I am a little drunk.

I tried to search it at rarewares and haven't found it.
Where are you exactly linking?

AFAIK all of them autodetect the input file, so there's no need to specify it if you don't want to change it...
Yes, the vast majority of encodings today comes from the CD rips AFAIK... wink.gif

The lameGUI.html is include with the lame source code. tongue.gif

Easy CD-DA Extractor (shareware/commercial) has a custom dll implementation of lame 3.96.1 exe. I believe this would qualify as a lame GUI. Modes are accessable that are not when using Lame DLL. Likewise, the DLL is only usable within this package.

The burst mode audio extraction of this package is very fast and it has a reputation for working on most copy protected CD's.

By the way, the initial post said a GUI for Lame and did not specify lame.exe. In that case there are many applications that support the lame dll. How about cdex, EAC, dbpoweramp, feurio, plextools, audiograbber and goldwave to name a few. There have to be at least 5 other good ones that I missed.

Very belatedly rolleyes.gif , I have added a version built using 3.96.1 to Rarewares. This version is a straightforward LAME/Mpglib mp3 encoder/decoder. It does not include the ogg vorbis or Monkeys input capabilites. smile.gif

Thanks John.
Problem: setting a different output directory is impossible. Maybe ask before overwrite would be nice too..

Works fine here. It doesn't store the change between sessions though as that is not currently an option.

Would be a problem when running unattended for a large encoding job.
