"Delete gaps" seems not to work as true gapless playback (reported by friend). Feature is explained on Iriver page as following:

QUOTE
When an extended period of silence is detected at the end of a song, this function will automatically jump to the beginning of the next song. Selecting the setting to ON will activate this function.

Not very helpful I think laugh.gif

Not at all, since it only helps jumping over intended pre-gaps.

I can't believe, that true gapless playback is that hard to implement... (or maybe IRiver doesn't even understand what some people mean by gapless) rolleyes.gif

Yeah I was pretty disappointed in them for not implementing gapless playback. Their "Delete Gaps" function is a joke. I happened to stumble upon the upgrade right after they released it and I was let down once again. The File Delete ability is useful, but it took them way too long to add something that simple.

Oh well, the player is fine as-is but they supposedly promised gapless and I was really looking forward to it sad.gif

Maybe someone should point IRiver to this page

Buyers beware

Next time please check in Audio Hardware if somebody already posted an announcement.

3. Adjust Playback Speed

...only seems to work for MP3 files - not Vorbis.
I guess this is an indicator for a badly written/organized firmware - from a software technical point of view.

Well seeing as it says on the iriver support forum where I downloaded the firmware from that it only works for mp3 files, I wasn't too surprised that it doesn't work with vorbis.
Guess this is an indicator that they don't regard it as important as mp3 or maybe it would be harder to implement.
Personally I can't see a use for it anyway, much rather they really worked on gapless.

--------
The playback speed can be adjusted in speeds from -5 to 5. (Actual speed adjustments range from ±10%)
Adjustments towards '-' will slow playback speed, and towards '+' will quicken it.

Playback speed adjustments are limited to 44 kHz MP3 files. The SRS setting will be automatically turned off when the playback speed is adjusted during SRS.

Just to add that the real big pint with this deceiving firmware is that the LCD remote "ticking" noise is now corrected...
Without this important bugfix the upgrade would'nt be very usefull... (OTF delete, yeah but many people rather OTF playlist)

Must be honest I'd never heard the ticking noise before, but I do now after the new firmware, not sure if I just hadn't listened to the songs that now click before though. So it could be that they are just doing what they would've anyway.

Would probably help me if I could remember which songs I'd heard it on, doh! crying.gif rolleyes.gif

Oh just found one of the files on my pc and it clicks there too so false alarm on that track at least. huh.gif

So got to dig out that album and see if theres anything I can do about it.

lets hope the Rockbox initiative will result in a better firmware one day wink.gif
