Got a question.

I have two computers, one in my room and one in the living room next to the router. I have them both connected to the router. Now i have all of my muisc (namely mp3s/aac) on the computer in my room.

What I would like to do is play my music on the computer in the living room without having to store my music on the living room computer first. Like a service that i can start on the living room computer that will allow my room computer to connect to it and play locally stored music.

Anything like this exist?

How about simply sharing your music files through a windows share? (or NFS for example if you're using Linux)
Ogig
iTunes shares can also be used for that, although that will not work with winamp.

I used to stream files from one computer to the other via winamp using simple file sharing.

If you use Windows XP, share the music directories you want to stream on the room computer, and map the path on your living room computer. Then when you add directories or files in winamp, the network drive shows up.

Does that work for you?

Wombat Share could maybe be something for your needs....

Or if you wan't to go streaming (but that's probably not what you where looking for) I've used this and been quite happy with it:

Icecast2 server (installable/compileable on most platforms I..... think?) with Oddcast plug (available for foobar2000, Winamp, XMMS and more...)

Do a search here on the forums and you'll find more info. Info also on e.g. Oddsock boards and obviously here.

Or since you mentioned mp3/aac specifically maybe Darwin Streaming Server could be something to look at... Haven't tried it myself though...

But you where looking to make a share not a stream, right...? Sorry for the digression.
