Probably your best bet is rec.audio.high-end

There's also rec.audio.opinion, but it is filled with trolls who have taken up residence there.

You might also try the other rec.audio.* groups to see if you like any of them. This forum is much superior to any of the newsgroups, though.

I think that at rec.audio.high-end (moderated) and rec.audio.tech (non-moderated) Usenet newsgroups, there are quite interesting discussions, aside from some people who have many years of experience and are indeed real experts at many audio fields.

Once you get past the spam it is mostly newbie type questions. "How do I convert Mp3 to WAV" and so on. I really haven't found anything even remotly close to this on Usenet.

That's an interesting question... and what about mailing lists? I ask this because I do not have a flatrate internet access, so web forums like this one can become quite expensive... ;-)
