So I ran the "Allow Indexing Service" thing again and this time I noticed that the files it was scanning were in the following directory: "f:/found.000\dir0049.chk\[file]"... After a few google searches, I determined that this is somewhat common, that Windows creates this directory and puts corrupted files into it. Corrupted files! How the hell did the files on my brand new Maxtor hard drive get corrupted? Anyway, the strange thing is, I still can't see the "found.000" directory in Windows Explorer, and the searches I did said that usually you can see it. I could only see it if I went into the dos prompt and entered the directory like that.

So is anyone familiar with this type of thing? I read that my best bet is to use some kind of data recovery program. I don't want to jump into this, though. I'm hoping that I can do this without really messing up anything. So any suggestions?

Thanks so much.
