Perhaps the Windows Media Encoder 9 is, in fact, only an encoder and not a full codec. Is there a trick to getting it to decompress wma files or is that outside its capabilities?
Windows WMAL2PCM decompresses but works only on lossless files.

dBPower amp can do the trick. Remember to also download its wma plugin.
