Hello all, just got fb2000 set up to use kernal screaming with my AV710 . . . and I can't believe how much better this sound card sounds then my SB Live!. My question is this though -- what exactly is kernal streaming? Is there some quality advantage to it (besides bypassing any other filters), or is this a CPU usage thing?

Also, barring kernal streaming (I really need my windows sounds, and I listen while I work), which output mode provides the best sound quality?

Hi.

Sorry, I can't answer you, but I have a serious question: What soundcard is this AV10 exactly (Manufacturer [website])?

Thanks!

err . . . ment the Chaintech AV710. It uses the standard VIA 7.1 chip, but has an optiion to use the 24/96 Wolfson DAC, which makes it sound better then anything in soundblaster's lineup *by far* if you use stereo output, and to do better undonditionally you need to drop $100 . . .

Setup info here

My setup right now is Foobar2K->AV710->Headsave Amp->Grado SR-125's . . . and it is laugh.gif

I'm not exactly sure about your question, but I can tell you that I use Directsound2 output and have no problem with Windows sounds. In fact, using DS2, I get independent volume control of the wav sounds.

Kernel Streaming is used to bypass the Windows Kmixer which supposedly mangles audio data.
