Is there a command line tagger for Linux that supports apev2 tags? easytag does, but that is a gui program. Specifically I am looking to tag wavpack files.
Speek
Have a look at Apetag.

I just have two similar questions:

1) Is it generally riskful to append Ape v2.0 tags onto Wavpack files?

2) Is there any reliable command line tool for Windows (sorry wink.gif) that will set Ape tags on *.wv files made with Wavpack 4.1 ?

Actually i use a program called 'tag.exe' that i have found in the distribution package of Flac v1.1. This tool seems to handle wavpack files correctly although wavpack support isn't mentioned explicitly.
Now in my search here i have read something about 'wapet.exe' - would it be maybe the better choice for wavpack?

wapet and tag are both by the same author (case) and serve different purposes.
wapet is used to use APEv2 tagging in EAC (or other rippers) and tag as a standalone tagging solution. And my Tag.txt does mention wv support explicitely.

Thanks for the clearing answer and specially for Tag.txt with the history!
With 'Tag.exe --help' there (still) is no remark concerning wavpack...

Great, thanks for posting it. An imporved UTF8 support is fine. I really hate it afterwards to control and maybe even correct manually the tags.

To be fair to Case, and in to ensure your comment isn't misunderstood by other people reading it, there is no problem with UTF8 handling in older versions of Tag.exe. SyntheticSoul's changes in 2.0.40b3 ("Now correctly encodes tag to UTF8 when using -f switch") were simply a bug fix for the incorrect UTF8 handling of the change he himself introduced in 2.0.40b2 ("New switch -f "<tag>=<file>" to set a tag value from the contents of a text file").

Thanks for adjusting this. - It really was not my intention to leave a compromising impression on Case's great work.
Tag.exe did and still does a perfect job. As long as i use it now also v2.0.39b has performed always without any error.

Next time i will quote again the change log to prevent missunderstanding.

And with that out of the way..... I think we forgot the word "Linux" in original posters topic line.... ohmy.gif Sorry, jth! blush.gif
The Apetag program looks promising. Does it support apetagging of all kinds of music files? Other than Musepack and Monkey's audio? What about mp3 files? Or what topicstarter wanted, Wavpack files?

Looking forward to tearing down this box I'm having now.... within a few weeks I hopefully have a brand new box with fanless watercooling and silent components, running a dualboot system with Windows2000 Pro and Debian GNU/Linux SID. (Then I can use Linux progs again, too.) tongue.gif
I've tried XP now and I didn't like it.
