Here's the situation,

I'm pretty much a digital audio newbie.

I have a bunch of tracks with bad/incomplete tags in the following form:
D:\Digital Audio\Jimi Hendrix\The Ultimate Experience\Foxy Lady.mp3

Oh, and they're in alphabetical order in the album subdirectory, not in the order that they appeared on the CD

Here's my current procedure:

1. Grab my CD as a guide and use the up/down arrows to rearrange songs so they are in the correct order

2. Down load album info from Amazon or FreeDB.

3. Import and fix as needed.

I'm wondering if there is a trick in Tag and Rename that would allow me to skip the tedious pre-ordering step?

Also, is there a way in tag and rename to append songs to a playlist? When I try to append, I just end up overwriting my first list.

Thanks,

foobar2000 (spetial installer) would do that perfectly (freedb, tagging, renaming) and much more ...

You realize this would all be unnecessary if your file names included the track number, right?

Hendrix\Ultimate\01 - Foxy Lady.mp3

Taggers can rename these for you in this format... Sorry if this was incredibly obvious...

Thanks for the info!

I will certainly rip my MP3s with better tags in the future, I'm just trying to get myself out of the tag mess that I created on my first enthusiastic ripping romp.

If the files are out of order in the T&R file window, then you can't use FreeDB to do a lookup. But Amazon lookup will work just fine, and you can reorder the tracks after selecting the proper album in the Amazon results window. Just drag the songs from where they are to the proper position before you hit the tag button. It's fairly easy that way. I prefer the Amazon grab anyway, since it gets Album Art.

with "The Godfather" you would just click the "auto sort" button" and all songs would be sorted according to duration times.
In most cases it works perfectly with no manual interaction.
Next click on Tag and your problems are solved.

Also someone coded a nice Allmusic script (there are also others) to grab infos and tag them.

cheers.
