Lets say an amplifier is desinged to decodify DTS ES 6.1 Discrete right.
As I play a Dvd the menu will give me the choice between DTS & Dolby Suround.

If I choose DTS will the dvd play into DTS ES 6.1 discrete ?
Or will it play into any other kind of format ?

it depends on the disc.

it'll play regular 5.1 if the DVD asks it, but if the DVD contains an ES track, it'll decode that too.

i believe DTS ES 6.1 decoders were designed to be backward compatible, so long as everything is set up properly (there's stream flags and stuff that should be in the DTS stream that the amp presumably knows what to do with).

ES track

Most Dvd's don't have any es track will the sound be decoded in 5.1 then ?
