I rip my music and compress to mp3 for use on my Karma, but I also archive the WAVs in .APE format.

I'd like to play my .APE backups in WMP10. Right now WMP only sees my mp3. Is there a plugin somewhere, or a setting I can change (I doubt the latter...)? Any help is much appreciated. smile.gif

Thanks for the links. I installed the DS-Monkey Source, but WMP10 still said it cannot recognize .APE. I double clicked the register DOS batch file, but I am still unable to play .APE with WMP10...?

I then installed RadLight to C:\Windows\System32 as it said, but that did not work either. Any ideas?

Convert your .APE's to WMA Lossless and they'll play perfectly in WMP10, Winamp 5.05 and Foobar2000.

You can convert the APE's easily with dMC Music Converter on www.dbpoweramp.com

Well, it is the only way to get proper playback in WMP10. With various DS filters you can get the APE's played back, but WMP10 will not be able to read tags, or put the files into the Library database.

Lossless to Lossless. You shouldn't be worried.

Lossless but..

Bad RAM, failing cpu fan, badly named files, dangerous FAT partitions, buggy IDE chipset, failing hard disk.. (assuming windows software and drivers are flawless)

As paranoid as it may sound -- when moving large amounts of data around, without integrity checks, there's *always* a risk. Trust me.

Hardware can fail. Try defragmenting a USB pen drive for example. It will be destroyed after a few hours -- and that's without a single mechanical part !

Well, will WMP10 read FLAC files alright? I could go that way instead.

you seem to be a smart guy ... why don't you try foobar2000 or even winamp?
Mr_Rabid_Teddybear
The various DS filters for e.g. ape, flac, mpc makes WMP able to playback the file, but it won't recognize it (you will have to open by means of "all files" and get a warning message that WMP will "try" to playback the file before it actually will), also proper tagreading, replaygainsupport etc. will be out of the question. Why not go for a useable audioplayer like foobar2000 or Winamp (or one of the several players that utilizes Winamp input plugs)...? You can look here for the latest Monkey's Audio input plug for Winamp BTW, just read the text for instructions. Foobar2000 have optimal support for almost everything straight out of the box, at least with the special installer.
