This sounds seriously cool. I've been waiting for something like this for ages.. now I just need to hook my Delta1010 back up

It works on SBLive! / Audigy using kX drivers.

But, at least here, I can't control the volume using Winamp's volume slider. Does it help with everybody else?

It seems to be very beta. Maybe it's worth waiting for a more stable version.

Besides, does anybody has any opinion why I should give up playing through DS and switch to ASIO?

Well I'm having problems with shorten and flac...

Shorten will play and pause, but stop and skip song (forwards and backwards) freeze winamp. Playing flac files freezes winamp, too...

Not to mention that the benefits from low latency at normal multimedia use are highly debatable.

Sure, ASIO kills, maims and murders when using softsynths (preferably Propellerheads or Steinberg ), but with media players...

It absolutely doesn't matter whether it takes 300ms or 11ms for Winamp to output audio after pressing the Play button.

And besides, some soundcards' multiclient and WDM drivers are extremely poor (like with my EWX24/96). That might actually matter to some people.

ASIO/DX multiclients and WDM ASIO's that is. Just out of interest, I'll have to check how this plugin deals with my lousy VIA-chipped motherboard. Generally I get incrediable amounts of crackling when using ASIO w/ Win2K (WDM).

VIA + soundcard = snap/crackle/pop/hiss/hammer-to-motherboard

as for the placebo effect, maybe I wasn't clear enough...

when compared to the ssrc_wavout plugin, set to resample to 88.2KHz, the ASIO sounds different. You can claim I am full of sh*t for saying I hear a difference, but I did some abx-like tests (with someone else runnning the machine, switching between the plugins) and I could determine the source 8/10 times, and we ran the test twice...

don't know how to explain it, but I am not making this up. The abx runs should quash the placebo theories...

AFAIK, ASIO does not resample, which means that it outputs the signal in the format that is is generated. (Low latency and (good)resampling are quite opposite things).

If you hear a difference between the ASIO, and waveout with resampling, either the resampling or a faulty windows kmixer is the reason.
(Maybe related: Windows 2K kmixer does not play 24 or 32bit signals, just the top 16bits of them. This has been fixed in Win2k SP3).

Don't get us wrong. If there's a fault, it is not in the output plugin. That's what we say here. Go on, find the cause.

DirectSound output plugin is known to output a lower level signal. Are you absolutely sure that the two output plugins you are comparing produce exactly the same output levels? Many positive blind tests are not valid for not taking into account this "small" detail.

However, if levels are the same, the difference could then be due to internal kmixer resampling... but Win98SE has no kmixer... (?)

So, in Win98 SE, plain waveout and ASIO output plugins should produce exactly the same signal, bit for bit identical. Waveout does not modify played signal at all, I still haven't tested ASIO output plugin.

As to SSRC wave output plugin, I don't think the difference with plain waveoutput plugin is easily perceivable, or perceivable at all, on quality non-resampling cards.

I think that the only advantage of using ASIO output plugin would be to bypass kmixer resampling on Win2K and WinXP machines.

I am having problems with my SBlive card and output to a Dolby Digital / DTS decoder. I used the KX Drivers and the asio plugin for winamp but my DTS cd's will not play. They appear to be playing in winamp, but I get no signal to my decoder.

Any suggestion?

Try Win2k and new delta wdm drivers i tested it and result stable and audible clearest....

This out plugin works fine for M-Audio delta familly cards drivers in use Delta_wdm_510027.EXE and W2K SP2 bit depth 8-16-24bit /all samplerates and 32bit int and floating point is resulted any sound... Problem is in drivers... ver wdm xxxx..26 supported only 16bit in W2K and vxd versions in W98SE 24bit and 32bit very bad or not.

Hummm... play the CDs in PowerDVD. :-/

I wonder if there's a plugin that does SP/DIF output for Winamp.

Just yesterday I played an dts-wave-ape through Winamp 2.8.

You know, dts sound as wave, which was compressed losslessly by Monkeys....
results to 10% smaller files on HD.

My soundcard: terratec EWX 2496, WinXP.

From EWX via 5 m optical cable to receiver which is able to decode dts to 5 channels.

At first attempt I got only noise.

But of course I had switched my sound scheme in winXP to digitally wave out of EWX (I have 2 soundcards, SB for system sounds, PC-speaker, ordinary use; EWX 2496 for Hifi, DAT -> HD, ...)

So what was wrong ?

Winamp -> setting of options -> preference -> winamp output -> winamp2 waveout plug-in 1.03 (outwave.dll) ->configure -> device -> (wrong: windows soundmapper; correct: wave spdif)

There you have to deselect Windows soundmapper to your soundcard with digital output directly (eg.: EWX 2496 wave s/pdif) .


So the Windows soundmapper is able to distort the signal !!!!
