i've been using miranda for some days now and i can say it got me. it is very nice. it has lots of features. the only thing that irritates me (but i think it can be handled through the options) is that the channels open a seperate window for each of them.

I wanted to like Miranda. I really did. In searching for a replacement for AIM+DeadAIM, which is what I am still using, I tried out Miranda, but it seemed to me that it had...

-no way to incorporate images in IMs (direct IM connection)
-no file transfers
-no buddy icons
-no tabbed IMs

As far as the tabbed IMs, I think I could have possibly gotten that feature if I'd had the patience to spend hours and hours looking through the forums, but I didn't have the patience, and the lack of the other features (especially the first two) made it a no-go for me.

Still with DeadAIM, I guess :/

P.S. I'm only talking about AIM, not other networks.
P.P.S. I've heard Messenger:Mate, another addon like DeadAIM, is good, but I really hoped at some point there would be a great client made from scratch.

Windows: Miranda

Linux: GnomeICU. I've used GAIM before, but, at least then, it didn't support ICQ file transfers. GnomeICU does, and I have no use for other protocols.

I'm using Miranda on WinXP.

Few months ago I got infected with that little program.
It's very cool to see how it actually grows in perfection with all the plugins you can add to it.
I like proggies you can choose for yourself what to add or how it shall look like. biggrin.gif
