Listen to "Innocence" from star ocean on foobar, and then try it on winamp. (I used the Snesamp plugin based off spc tool 0.7 - old but seemingly reliable) I think the foo_spc version is obviously flawed, though I haven't heard the original... listen for the dissonace around the 17 second mark. The Snesamp version lacks this dissonance.

I don't know how to upload the file itself, but the entire soundtrack for star ocean I found at www.zophar.net .

Flawed rip. Most likely, garbage in the I/O port region of the save state. Zophar's Domain is not known for the quality of their SPC rips, mostly for the quantity.

The rip from this site does not have this problem. Just rename the RSN files to .RAR, and you can even add the RAR directly to the player if you have the Archive reader (foo_unpack) installed.

Sure enough.

Thanks for pointing me to the site.
And thanks for the plugin too, my music app isn't complete if it can't play spc.

No problem. While some may also point out how the original rips work with Snesamp, I believe the issue may be the emulator ignoring the contents of the input ports in the SPC dumps, which would mean they have zero effect on the playback. While this may or may not be a problem, it would prevent someone from hacking a rip by simply changing those ports.

Another fine example of a rip gone wrong, try comparing the first part of the opening in the Der Langrisser rip. This is one of several rips at ZD where samples are partially uploaded and/or missing, so sound odd.
