i'm looking to purchase a pc for real-time effects processing using VST & ASIO. i need to know what kind of soundcard will give me the lowest latency time. something with a 2ms time would be good. i know that part of the delay is determined by the CPU but the CPU i am planning on purchasing should be fast enough. (3.4GHz AMD64) my budget right now is still undetermined so any suggestions would be welcome.

Over 2 years ago i posted some results from a review where ASIO latencies were tested: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1779

Maybe it can still give you some hints today. I don't know how much the drivers have improved over this period of time.

what about the latency time on the Chaintech soundcard that uses the Envy chip?
