In foobar, some files are said to be AAC+SBR wheras others are just AAC. Its not just HE-AAC because they are just recognised as AAC, so has anyone any ideas on what this means in foobar?
MugFunky
SBR = spectral band replication. it's part of the HE profile.

a lowpassed signal is coded in ordinary AAC, and the high frequencies are guessed from the low frequencies, and guided by some heaviliy compressed info about the original high content.

it's for low bitrate AAC, and is not of much use at all above 80kbps.
Garf
HE-AAC and AAC+SBR are the same.

(Note that foobar won't indicate either if it's in an MP4 file)
