Hey, I am helping to write a guide on mp3s for use in car audio, but I am having trouble finding information about the tagging compatibility of the various currently available brand and model head units.

Most support ID3V1. I've not seen any that support ID3V2.
really? all the ones I tried read the id3v2.3 tags just fine. Alpine and JVC at least. I burned a bunch of LAME --preset standard MP3s to a CD with ONLY id3v2.3 tags (no id3v1) just to check this very thing, in fact.
