I just noticed that the Google Ads are back when I am logged in to HA.org. Has my subscription run out already? It doesn't seem like a year yet but I would certainly take your word on it.

edit: It still says (Donating) by my name so perhaps there has been a change of policy?

Dibrom hasn't got around to fixing skins yet.
music_man_mpc
Thanks for the quick reply. smile.gif

I was trying to get the skins fixed the other day but there were some problems, so I had to unfortunately revert all accounts to the default for the moment. I'm going to try again soon.

how about using the tower type of ads and puting them on the right side of the forum? (the way they are positioned now is making the whole navigation a bit messy imho)

(just an idea wink.gif)

Hehe, not to look completely moody, but I really like the ads not being on the right (or left!) side of the forum.. I never browse "Full screen", and once I am below the ads at the top, I am 'ad free' for the rest of the page wink.gif

Any news regarding the google ads thing? It's been a several months already and the donating members (or at least me) still have the ugly ad box around despite the promises to have it fixed.

I'm sorry if this comes through as bitching, but I just got bombed with the yearly subscription without any previous warning or reminder, something I didn't like at all, since I made some heavy expenditures this Christmas and the subscription was certainly not within my planned budget (especially with the currency exchange rate at a particularly unfavorable position for me). Therefore, I think it's fair that one of the things I'm paying for, which was getting the ugly ads removed, worked as it should at least; otherwise I am feeling ripped off in addition to annoyed from having to make this unexpected and unwanted expense, since my status as donating member status isn't even acknowledged anymore and the subscription control panel shows mine as "expired".
Is there a way to cancel the subscription and get a (partial) refund or, at least, a way to stop the bothersome "surpise!" recurring charge?

The same thing happened to me. I PM'ed Dibrom about it, and I am awaiting his answer.
Dologan
Has anyone from the staff noticed this yet?
CiTay
Sorry for any inconvenience... looking into it.
CiTay
Okay, it seems that you two somehow got removed from the "donating" member group. I added you back manually. Could be that the ads are still there though... please tell me if they are.
music_man_mpc
I can't speak for Dologan or PoisonDan but for me, at least, the ads are still there.
Dologan
Yup, still there.
BTW, my subscription still shows up as "expired", even though the paypal system has already charged me. Is there a way to opt out?

Same thing here. Paypal clocked me, but I'm showing expired, too.
Florian
Maybe it has something to do with the forums switched to "Trial" from "Registered" some days ago?

The thing is that the two seem to be independent of each other. Conversely, that means that you'd have to cancel your subscription via the Paypal options if you choose to opt out.

The ads are shown because Dibrom has had no time to fix the skins yet. I've taken a look at it, but despite being rather well-versed in HTML, i'd like to leave this up to Dibrom, since i don't want to introduce any layout issues (all skins are interconnected).

This is an unfortunate situation, because Dibrom makes himself scarce these days. Let me again apologize for the inconvenience caused. But i'm pretty sure that if you want to cancel your subscription, you can do so from within Paypal.

Hmm... I've logged into my paypal account, but I can't find any option to view, and much less cancel, my subscriptions...

I'm going to continue contributing whether the ads appear or not. They're not obtrusive, and I would prefer to return some support to a board I have learned so much from.

Sorry about the ad problems, I'll try and get them taken care of as soon as possible. To cancel subscriptions you have to log into your paypal account and I think check some sort of properties on the subscription payment you made.

You have the users to thank for that not the administator as you can see....

I guess I wasn't the founding and (initially at least) one of the most prolific users or anything, was I? rolleyes.gif

Not to get too OT, but any decent adblocking software (I use Firefox Adblock, its tiny and free) will remove any google ads from webpages. 10 seconds to remove all ads doesnt seem like a big deal to me, but then again, im not a donating member, yet. lalala.gif

I feel the same way, and that's also why the current situation doesn't bother me that much.

At least I'm glad to have the "(Donating)" tag back. wink.gif

I don't care about the ads, but I have the problem that I can't access my member profile.
Every time I click on Edit profile I get an error

You are not allowed to use this part of the board

I already asked Dibrom for any help in September and October last year, but I didn't get any response sad.gif

Can any of the other admins try to fix that?

Best regards,
