Hi everybody,
I've been digitalising old tapes redorded in mono and I wonder how to convert them into stereo. By now, I just save them as 16-bits stereo with my editor, bur both channels are similar. Is there any aplication that really turns into stereo (and, of coure, in an easy way, 'cause I'm not a soun expert)?
Thanks in advance

You want to separate the tracks (for example guitar, bass, and record them biased towards L or R channel). Vocals normally stay central. Stay away from big Axis:bold as love stereo experiments!

I don't see any point to do that...
If you don't know how the stereo was ment to be, the experiments with that are useless...

The best things to add a bit stereo are often chorus and delay effects. But there's no easy way to achieve it.
If the source is mono, why change it?

Maybe you should tell us how you want the channels to be different in the first place.
You can't "magically" get stereo out of mono because the information required to make it stereo isn't present. That's why the file is mono in the first place. It's the same reason re-encoding an MP3 to a higher bitrate won't result in a better sounding file.

you can make a stereo to a wider stereo separation but its impossible to change mono to stereo!
stupid suggestion, but i think this is the only way to make you file sound really "stereo".
if you have an electronic organ, compose the music yourself according to the song, transfer the midi to computer, convert it toi wave with reverb and chorus effect, mix it with the vocal you've mentioned
Alright, You all are right. There's no point at all to convert them into stereo. I guess it was just a mental masturbation. And by the way, can anyone explain me in a plain way what is the difference between stereo and joint stereo? Once again, excuse my ignorance, budies.
Cheers
