Well im not sure where to post this, im really new.
But i do need help, when i am playing a AUDIO CD in Foobar2000 it just shows TRACK 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 Ect.
I want to rip these to my computer, i can do that.
But when i look in the folder when its complete it does not show the names of the songs. just TRACK 1 ,2 ,3 ,4.
Is there a data base that you can click on to chages the track names to save they way there suppose to?
Or do i have to change them all manualy?
Thanks Athlon
Jan S.
Foobar has a freedb component. Selected all tracks, right click and use freedb.

Try to change the default freedb server under freeedb preferences in foobar.

hmm...Do you apply freeedb first to the CD and then rip? You should then have the new files tagged properly. You can always select the ripped files and apply freedb again.

Of course biggrin.gif You're trying to tag files directly on your CD, which is unwritable, so that's why you get an error message. But normally, 'tags' are then stored in the database (as long as you don't delete your current playlist), you can then rip and transcode to whatever format you want into your HD, and your files should have tags as you get them for frreedb in the first place. If not, just do this:

1) Transcode.
2) Load files into a playlist and apply freedb.

Hrm, ok so it seems that yo uhave the default diskwriter output filename formatting, which is :
CODE
$num(%_diskwriter_index%,3) %_filename%
thus it uses the filename of the cd track, which in fact is the alphanumeric combination...
I myself use this:
CODE
$if2(%album artist%,%artist%)\%album%[ '('%date%')']\$num(%tracknumber%,2) - $caps2(%title%)
to name the files I diskwrite, you can remove the
CODE
$if2(%album artist%,
and the ) behind %artist% if you don't have files tagged with album artist... (this is only for compilations, so they would go in to the same directory)

Oh, and this option can be found in foobar2000->preferences->components->diskwriter and there output file name formatting

Ahh i think i figured this out...
Once i have ripped th songs to the hard drive i see the WIERD number system on the file.
But when i open it in the player it does show the song title the right way.
Is there a way for the file names to be saved on the actual songs.
So i use media player or something else to read these files the titles and info will show up not just 00A90E1C,01?????
Thanks Athlon

For filename you can use the tips suggested by Dotnoir. If you find it too difficult I suggest you to use the godfather appz to rename/tag your files.

That means that your files are correctly tagged by foobar freedb.
QUOTE

blink.gif Beleiving what you said, your files are tagged (info saved on the song itself).

Make sure that in foobar preferences:

1) Database doesn't have 'Block tag update' enable. Which would mean that instead f tagging the files, it's stored in the foobar database.

2) Under playback>standard inputs choose a tag format that media player understand: id3v1 or id3v2 (you'll need foo_id3v2 plugin for that). Foobar normally uses APEv2 tag format by default.

Guys...
Thanks for all your time.
I finially understand and got it to work correctly.
I only have one other question....
I read you neeed NERO installed to burn to cd.
I dont want to have to install another program, i think that 4 are enough already
It would be nice i could use Foobar for everything,
Is there a single file or something that i can install so i can reconize another burning program?

I must say once you understand this program it is SWEET>
Thanks again for your time
Athlon

No there is no way to install just a single component to enable burning in FB2K, It uses the Nero burning engine, so you will need Nero to be installed to work.

So the only options you have is to either install Nero or to use another application suited for burning audio CDs from compressed music files, a good application for this is for example Burrrn available at http://www.burrrn.net/.
