Maybe try this (it's German, but should be no problem). Rightclick Desktop, Preferences, Settings, Advanced, General.

This is another view, of what the misfunctioning font does. does anyone have any ideas? PLEASE!?

My system uses "Tahoma" by default.

Did you try switching to another desktop theme (right-click on desktop, Properties, Themes tab)?
