Full Version: Linux & WavPack 4.1 ?
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossless Audio Compression > WavPack

2 questions:

1. is playback on Linux possible ?
If you have wavpack 4.1 files on a Linux system, are there already plugins or native support eg. for xmms player ?

2. Could you already encode wave files to wavpack 4.1 on Linux,
or decode wavpack 4.1 to wave ?
Garf
1. Not that I know

2. Yes, you can compile it from sources and it works

Is it necessary, that every Linux user compiles himself ?
Why cannot somebody (of course preferably at www.wavpack.com) host a finished Linux compile ?
Is there any chance, that wavpack gets player support in Linux ?

I believe David still doesn't have Linux installed at his PC. That's probably why he's not hosting official compiles to this platform yet.

No doubts about it. David was recently busy about adding tagging from the encoder command line, and I think next he'll work on a command line replaygain tool. But a xmmx plugin seems to be relatively high on his priorities list.

Speek has compiled a Linux version that seems to run on many flavors and is generously hosting it. His post is here:

Supposedly there is also a xmms plugin that can play using a command-line decoder, but obviously this would not seek well. I would love to create an xmms plugin but (like Roberto says) I do not have a Linux setup nor a lot of time right now. It seems like the WavPack 4.1 library should make it trivial for a Linux guru to create an xmms plugin, but apparently there aren't any Linux gurus that are also WavPack fans... sad.gif
