Haha! I guess they want to prove WA development isn't dead.

Hmm. They succeeded in doing so. Sad enough that the SingleUI skin and the iPOD plugin didn't make it into the bundle (at least for 5.06).

The SingleUI skin hasn't been finished by iPlaythespoons for some reason. The iPod plug-in still needs a bit of work from Will. I think they've both been busy with school, so maybe they'll be able to put in some more work over the holidays.

what is this SingleUI skin deal?

nevermind... yeah i wondered about that too, didnt know the name

Nobody claimed anywhere it's a breakthrough feature.

In case you didn't notice, the first post has a changelog, not a features list.

for me personally 5.xx was worth upgrading mainly because of global hotkey support. while I don't need Winamp to play my videos or to function as a music database, you can disable all that you don't need in the installer (or get the lite one) and still benefit from the security updates and bugfixes. resource requirements are roughly the same with classic skin minus extras.
there really is no need for not upgrading. though there really is no reason to update OTOH if you are happy with 2.xx of your choice wink.gif

Woohoo! I just updated my Winamp to 5.06, and I'm finally able to listen to Internet radio again! For some reason, I would get a MPEG error whenever I tried to listen to Internet radio in 5.00-5.05, but 5.06 has fixed it, bless Nullsoft's beating heart.

Digga is right, Winamp 5.x is extremely customizable to the point where you can get it to look and act exactly like 2.x, which is what I do. I have Modern skins disabled along with video support, and just have the media library added compared to 2.x.

I'm not too sure, but has anyone noticed Winamp 5 (using classic skin) to use more memory than the old 2.x?

200 KB is not too much wink.gif

Finally they got around to fix a shuffle bug that plagued Winamp since the WA 2 and WA3 days (a song used to play twice when shuffle was turned on and it was the last song left in the PL).

Did anyone test out, if they fixed AACplus (HE-AAC) content in MP4 containers? Do they play as they should now??

I am asking since the in_mp3 was one of the DLLs that they touched.

according to winamp forums there wasn't any work on HE-AAC in this release, and roumors say this is not planed ITNF.
in_mp3 was considerd buggy by some members, but a fixed version floates around and will (has been?) repacked into 5.06.
amano
Hmm. AFAIK, nobody in the Winamp forums knows the exact changes.

After the release of 5.04 it was told that Nullsoft would try to sort out the MP4 issue.

judging from the comments of some of the mods at the Wa forums, this is not of very high priority IIRC

at least this kind of stuff is still done, so Winamp is surly not dead. in the worst case it slowly begins to rot.

edit: clarification.

Here are some of the bugs that were addressed with the 5.07 update, but not listed in the changelog:

– Small resource-leak bugfix
– Rip/burn compatibility bugfix for users with newer Sonic Engine installed
– New “Next” button in Winamp Modern skin, minus gray artefact

it may not be the highest priority item, but it is something that has been directly brought up to the developers several times--unfortunately, it's just usually skipped over to work on other bug/security fixes. the people who consistently bring it up and remind the developers are almost always the mods at the WA forums.
