Full Version: Telling if an mp3 file is mp3pro?
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > MP3 > MP3 - General
Revision17
I have some mp3 files that claim to be mp3pro, however if I right click on them and go to properties in foobar2000, it displays no such information. Just:
bitrate = 16 <--- wrong
codec = MP3
channels = 2
samplerate = 22050
mp3_stereo_mode = joint stereo
----------
13628207 samples @ 22050Hz
File size: 1 230 687 bytes

Foobar also doesn't get the correct length of the song. So, if they're mp3pro, I'd like to transcode them to something else. Is there I utility I can use to check to see if they are mp3pro?

Trying to play the audio file with Winamp with mp3PRO plugins, if the output sound are no difference with foobar2000, that audio file will be a normal mp3 file. smile.gif

If you have Nero installed(make sure you have the NERO mp3pro plugin), download the foo_nero.dll and place it to the foobar2000 component directory, rename the mp3 file to *.mp3pro, and foobar2000 should be decode the mp3PRO audio file without problem. smile.gif

I hope you know, that this will decrease your sound-quality...even if it is to a lower bitrate!

Yes, I know it will decrease the quality. However I used oggenc at q2, and I can't abx between the two, so I don't care.

Why transcode it just because it's MP3Pro? There's still a standard MP3 bitstream in there that you can play.

Musicmatch will display the file type - MP3 or MP3Pro.

There is also a convert function.

But do you really want to change your MP3Pro's back to MP3 (or other).

I have simply stopped making MP3Pro file and now make my MP3s using EAC/LAME.
