When encoding several albums with Nero AAC I noticed that the final bitrate is much much higher than what should be if we read what is written in presets....for example I encoded the "Angra" album called "Angels Cry" and I get an average br of 200 Kbps in trasparent mode (that should be between 110 and 150 Kbps), I also tried different presets, especially the ones that gives you a good quality using LC and files are ALWAYS much bigger that what should be... I also noticed that this is not very evident when using lower br in HE mode.
I think that would be a good idea to write in the presets what will be the medium br with a little more precision... As far as I've seen, the difference is about 40-50%... Thanks for comments...

110-150 = this is the bitrate for "streaming"

there is no "transparent" mode in Nero AAC ( at least for v 2.6.2.2)

Do you mean "Normal"?

Normal is around ~180kbps, getting an average bitrate 200kbps is pretty normal,.....

I use the latest Nero AAC 2.9.9.6 and THERE IS transparent mode (110-150) while streaming mode is 100-120... smile.gif

Known issue reported several times here.

The presets shifted bitrates when the encoder was improved/changed. Will be fixed for 3.0

Thank you Garf for your answer smile.gif Do you know when will the new version be relased approximately? Thanks again

I used Nero's "streaming vbr" mode and noticed that it gives significantly more bits to quiet, stationary parts of songs (intros, outros,...) than to chaotic parts.

Than I encoded extremely chaotic techno.wav and extremely stationary horn.wav sample and compared them. What I got was surprising for me: very chaotic techno had much lower bitrate (150) than the stationary horn (190). Than I checked with well known velvel.wav and it had 180 kbps also smaller bitrate than horn.wav.
Did someone else notice this, and is this behaviour ok?

Not getting an answer is an answer sometimes...

Offhand, I'd just remark that chaotic music has much more masking opportunities than stationary tones.

Sure, but what is confusing me is the following...
Stationary signal horn barely has any frequencies above 5 kHz and sounds transparent even at 70-80 kbps CBR. On the other hand very chaotic samples need 120-130 kbps CBR to achieve transparency.
When I switched to VBR, I expected to see the same thing - (much) lower bitrate for horn than for these problematic chaotic signals. But, totally opposite happend.

Then it's a bug/suboptimal behaviour.
