In an act of immeasurable, immense, intense RAW UNADULTERATED STUPIDITY, I formatted my harddrive.
However, I did it part way through what was probably the best weekend of my life, so that takes the edge of it a bit, maybe.
So anyway, after reinstalling pretty much everything, and getting everything going, I find that MPC will not play .WMV's. WMP will. And MPC used to. MPC plays everything else, but not .WMV's. It fails to render the file.
What's Lev doing wrong?

umm, I guessing here, but I think you need to tell it to do it.
Do you need to associate (play with?) those file types to play with your MPC.
Try: View>Options>Player>formats
anything video related is associated with MPC. MPC starts, and then announces that it "Failed to render the file"
Try searching Microsoft.com for "windows media codecs". There should be a bundle available with just the 7/8/9 codecs.
I don't know if this will work. When I recently setup a fresh PC with Win 2000, the codec pack wouldn't install because it requires at least MS Media Player 7. I then installed MS Media Player 10 and that alone was enough to let MPC be able to play WMV files. To be clear I did not have to install the codec pack. It may be worth a try though. *shrugs*

reinstalling directx might also be worth a shot (if not done already)
