Full Version: OggMux goes Open Source

This project aims to replace the old, limited AVI file container by an ogg-container. The win32 DirectShow Filters by Tobias Waldvogel are really a great tool, but hard to use without a GUI replacement for graphedit.

OggMux - multiplexer for ogg media files
ManyFaces
I'm puzzled:

Isn't ogg supposed to be a media container? One with vorbis, theora, tarkin, flac,... streams? Then why OggMux?
LoKi128
ehhh because it MUltipleXes many streams into the OGG container, maybe?

I assume you are asking about the name... it is quite alright i think.
ManyFaces
Seems like I didn't get the point... and I think I got it now

Excuse me if am i wrong: OggMux is not a container *but* a client application to make possible all the streams on the ogg container be played at once, that is, the vorbis audio stream along the Tarkin/ Theora video stream to hear *and* view the movie...
LoKi128
Bingo!

Don't know if I can refer people to other forums without getting shot, but look for the Doom9 forums. They put OggMux to use over there a lot.

I have a few .OGMs already with XviD and Vorbis sound.

OGG (weirdly renamed .OGM, thanx to M$ Winzoz limits...) is widely used by the most careful DivXers around the world as container for simple (video + audio) and multi-track video (video + audio-eng + audio-ger + audio-ita + sub-titles) since many months ago

- .OGG has lower overhead than .AVI
- .OGG has almost instant seeking!!!

[Edit]

- .OGG has CRC checking for bit corruption

OggMux is an application, yes, but it's not a player.
OggMux is a simple little program which muxes things into an ogg stream. It needs to use some currently closed source directshow filters to do this -- these same filters are also needed to play the resultant file.
