I just want to make sure I have this right, before starting to encode some new music:

At the Rarewares mp3 website, if you count down 6 downloads to the one that says "LAME 3.90.3 stable bundle 2004-02-10", and I use --alt preset standard exclusively, I can just use the "new-ish" lame_enc.dll and get the exact same output?

And, on a quick, but related, sidenote: If I want to try out the new 3.96.1 bundle, its .dll performs the same?

Thanks all.

Providing whatever frontend you are using to the dll doesn't mess with the basic defaults after the preset is 'set', yes.

Yes, it does, although it supports a wider range of presets than most, if not all, the current frontends offer. Obviously the output as between the two dlls will be different as the presets are configured internally in different ways.

Thanks John. One more thing, I notice that when you unzip the Lame-3.90.3.zip file, and then view the index.html help file, it identifies itself as LAME V3.93.1. Is this just a "typo", or is the "new" 3.90.3 the same as 3.93.1?

Thanks.

You're welcome. See . . . some of us actually do read the documentation. tongue.gif
