I can't seem to get lame dshow to connect to anything except file writer, which does not help me becuase i'm trying to make a graph to convert a video. The audio I would like to be encoded to MP3 and the video will be DivX in an AVI container.

Is there anything I can do to get it connect to AVI Mux and *then* to file writer?

hm maybe you have to encode using cbr in lame to make the directshow avi muxer take it?
vbr audio isnt really specified for .avi, thats because there have to be some workarounds applied to make it work. the best would probably be to mux your mp3 audio to .avi by using virtualdubmod or avimuxgui

the same counts for CBR MP3... perhaps the AVIMux filter is just missing a WAV header in the mp3 stream. in any case, that AVIMUx filter writes broken AVIs (IIRC) so you would have to remux them anyway afterwards.
