Full Version: Weird MP3 tag bug.

I just ran across something I've never seen before, thats pretty weird. I loaded up a playlist in WinAmp, (got the same behaviour in QCD), and went to read the tag info, and the tag was blank. I was sure that I had written the tag info once before, but decided to just re-write it manually. (It was only one tag.) The file wouldn't update because it kept coming back with a "file is read only" error. I double-checked, and it wasn't.

I duplicated the same problem in QCD. So, I wrote the tag using Mp3Tag. Re-opened the playlist and still had the same behaviour . . . also with the tag showing blank. I then deleted that playlist, and created a new one with the same files.

Now, when I go to that playlist, I can open the same song's tag, and edit it. blink.gif

It almost appears as though the first playlist somehow was interfering with the ability to read, or write to the file.

Anybody ever seen anything like this before? BTW - I opened the playlist in NotePad and it appeared normal. Weird!

You can use Process Explorer to see which processes have your file open, which is the only other possibility I can think of.

Random guess, stupid Explorer extension has the file open, so it will be explorer.exe. Perhaps you still have a file window open with a preview panel showing?

Funny thing is, I already have that program on my computer, but it didn't occur to me to use it. (Don't use it often enough to keep it forfront in my mind.)

I've already deleted that playlist and recreated it . . . without that problem.

I'll keep that program in mind if it ever happens again. wink.gif
